The state of Virginia has produced several musical talents like Timbaland, Missy Elliot, Chris Brown, and many others. Trauma Tone, the Charlottesville, VA native adds to the prominent musicians that are cut from that cloth.

Being sprung onto the scene producing Yo Gotti’s platinum single “I Know” featuring Rich Homie Quan has spawned a fruitful production career. Since then, Trauma has worked with a number of artists and his production is arguably unmatched. Check out interview below.

Yo Gotti - "I Know"

"I Know" was crazy record for me, I was really locked in making a bunch of beats in grind mode at the time. One day I had heard “I Got 5 on it” by the Luniz and it sparked the idea to recreate the melody. It’s wild to me because when I was making it, I had a feeling and just knew that it could be something from the vibe I got from it. I sent the beat to Rich Homie Quan and as they say, the rest was history.

YNW Melly - "I Am You"

The record “I Am You” came about through a collaboration with my bro Yung Lan. YNW Melly was a new artist at the time and I wasn't really familiar with him until Lan hit me up and told me he was working with him. Lan asked me to collab with him on beats and ideas for Melly, so I checked out some of his music to get a feel of his style and see what I could add to his sound. I wanted to tap into pop/techno vibes, something that would feel like you’re put you in a trance. That's the sound that I felt like complimented YNW Melly's voice.

Cozz - "Knock Tha Hustle"

I really like Knock Tha Hustle because it's a different style than what I'm known for and it really provided the opportunity to showcase the versatility of my production skills that I don't really get a chance to show often. The beat came together really simple, as I was looking through a bunch of songs to sample while cooking up, and once I found the song and I knew I wanted to chop the sample and take it up top with the drums. I enjoy sampling good music and its cool to alter and reinvent the sound.

Money Man - "Boss Up"

Boss Up was one of the first songs that me and Money Man worked on together that really help establish our relationship. I was working with a producer named Progression and he sent me a melody that had a sample of an old song. I loved the melody and the sample but I knew that we would never get it cleared for use. I ended up stripping down the beat to only the bassline and some keys and built it back up from there.

Kevin Gates - "Dreka"

I made this one about two years ago. Me and Felipe S started working on beats together. Felipe S is a dope guitar player and sample-maker and Kevin Gates literally hit me up around the same time that me and Felipe were working and I knew for a fact that we had the perfect beat for him. I sent over a 10 pack of beats including the song that I knew he would like. Crazy enough that was the first song that he picked.
