Bugs as actors? Yep, you guessed it right. California based band, The Growlers, have returned to gift us with a stunning & spine-tingling visual for their lead single from their album, Problems III.

The praying mantis (main actor) is seen visiting a motel, what is actually suspected to be a brothel as the video progresses. The color schemes are extremely vibrant with pink & orange hues, giving us the nostalgic vintage feels that The Growlers have become synonymous with.

The video’s protagonist, a praying mantis, gets curious and begins to wander the halls of a motel. As he reveals what’s behind each door, we see some bugs getting it on, a frog chilling peacefully as it devours a cricket, and even a deathly scorpion shown with bondage, which puts a spin on the sexual imagery behind this concept.

The praying mantis finally gets to the end of the hall & opens the last door, revealing a fairy, with whom you can see the praying mantis’ infatuation. Lyrics like “Lucid trips in joyride ships/We watched the neon lights/A lover’s ride to thaw out frigid times” suggesting exactly what the visual communicates. If you thought your skin crawled before, think again.
