New to the Elevator pages is rhêtorík – the multitalented artist is slated to release his newest EP Behind Closed Doors tomorrow, but we wanted to bring this project to you a bit early so we’ve partnered with him to give fans an early listen into this revealing project. Born in Virginia, rhêtorík credits hometown heroes like N*E*R*D and Timbaland for really expanding his musical mind beyond the typical confines of genres as a youth, something that can be felt throughout the new project. In 2017, rhêtorík released his self written, produced, and mixed debut single “Shelter” which explores the true feelings of mental instability that go along with not having a home to anchor to. His newest project is just as intimate.
When asked to comment on the five-track EP and the meaning behind it the artist stated that:
“I named this EP Behind Closed Doors not only because it explored emotions and stories that I had previously kept secret from everyone, but also because I created the whole project completely in secrecy without any outside opinions. I wanted my first true venture into artistry to be an unapologetic, unfiltered version of my sonic self. Although it only has 5 songs, and comes in at under 20 minutes, the lyrical depth and musical breadth of Behind Closed Doors makes it FEEL like you’re listening to a full-length cohesive project.”
The project does indeed impress with its multitude of layers and symphonic cohesion. Press play on Behind Closed Doors below and let us know your favorite track in the comments.
