Wu Tang Clan still ain’t nothing to fuck with.
In case you forgot, Wu Tang Clan is forever. Fans of what is perhaps the most influential rap group of all time can rejoice in unison at today’s news that after years of rumor swirling, Sony Pictures has approved production on a biopic about the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
One of music’s most entertaining emcees, Dirt Dog left us prematurely in 2004 following an accidental drug overdose. Since then the topic of an ODB feature film is one that’s been discussed at length amongst those loyal Wu fans. With the recent surge of hip-hop biopics at the box-office putting up monstrous numbers (Straight Outta Compton, All Eyez on Me, etc) Sony has given the long-awaited go-ahead on the production of the project.
While a director has yet to be announced, the company has announced that fellow founding Wu Tang member, and cousin of the late ODB, RZA, will take the production lead for the film. Already an experienced thespian himself, RZA’s intimate knowledge of both worlds have fans around the world excited in what will undoubtedly be his most personal project to date. While a release date has not yet been announced, we will continue to keep you updated on developments regarding the film.
