“I look up to Prince,” Nowell expands over the phone, “No one is ready for some black dude with a hairy chest and a chain playing guitar.”
Shai Nowell, a 24-year-old Atlanta-based indie and neo-soul artist working in contemporary R&B, has a new EP out today called Last Day In SA. The 4-track EP – “I75 North,” “Passenger Seat,” “Pit Stop,” and “Hayes Bridge” – transition in and out of each other smoothly.
Now streaming everywhere on DOTWAV Records, Shai Nowell covers WZRD‘s “Efflictim” in “Pit Stop”. The entirety of the EP was written, produced, and performed by Shai Nowell. The most arresting track is on “Hayes Bridge,” where Shai Nowell‘s vocals shine, teetering dangerously close into bone-chilling sound complete with a steady groove.
