This 14-track album feels like an affirmation.
As we turn the final pages of 2019 into a brand new decade, the energy surrounding the coming year just feels different. Most can firmly state that 2020 is going to be filled with expansion & forward acceleration in our own individual lives; these final days of 2019 truly preparing us for a whole new landscape & playing field. Collectively diving deeper into the magic we harness as creatives, the theme of Pink Siifu & YUNGMORPHEUS‘ newly released album Bag Talk states just how deeply focused and in our bags we are truly about to be.
After just recently discovering Siifu through his 2018 Ensley project, the innovative & innate nature of his creativity flows seamlessly through captivating lo-fi beat fragments matched with unbridled storytelling through elicit poetry – his work standing out to me immediately upon listening. His music often makes me feel I’ve stumbled upon hidden gems in an old record store. From neo-soul to classic hip-hop ballads, the authenticity that creates Siifu speaks clearly and heavily through each of his projects. Those elements gathered & paired with the clever & quick-witted intellect that centers in L.A. based rapper & producer, YUNGMORPHEUS, laid the foundation for Bag Talk, & what I would like to call, “an audible masterpiece”.
The synergistic chemistry between Siifu & Morpheus just feels way too right – with tracks in particular like “Harvest Season”, “Big Bag”, “Mantle wit the Fit” & “Bobby Seale” that bring on this unique feeling of nostalgia & familiarity. It’s clear these two are 10 toes down in their artistry, never losing sight of their own individual genius but, delivering just the right balance on how to bring it all together. The 14-track album is studded with production features from Roper Williams, Ohbliv, Vritra, & GriMM Doza, Malik Abdul-Rahmaan along with a few others. Overall, it’s a smooth listen and doesn’t require any skips.
