Orville Peck burst onto many radars, including mine, with his May LP Pony that exhibited Peck’s mysterious brand of country music. Vocally he sounds in line with many old-school country-western musicians, and instrumentally he often falls into this motif, but his glittery exterior and subtle wit turn him from your standard ’50s country revival act into one of the most hyped up and comers this lane has seen.
His music is theatrical and cinematic and sounds nothing like the music you would have experiencd on typical country radio, and almost falls just as easily in with softer indie-rock as it does with the Florida Georgia Line iteration of the genre. Peck offers many details throughout this session about his methods, his views on his music, and what he hopes to accomplish in his career. I would highly recommend Orville Peck to any music lover, as what he is doing is at the very least quite interesting.
