Los Angeles rapper, AzSwaye is one of the most respected members of the New L.A. renaissance, and it all stems from the hyper-aggressive style he coined on, “Ride With My Glock”, which ended up becoming a staple cadence used by many of the rising acts in Southern California. Perhaps noticing this and looking for a new challenge, Swaye decided to recruit soul singer, Kyle Banks & Corey C for one of his more melodic records to date, “Old Bird”.
Produced by Meez and LouieJI, “Old Bird” is 1000% for the ladies, with production buoyed by a consistently infectious guitar sample, that’s emphasized by Kyle’s show-stopping performance on the chorus where he sounds like the second coming of Ty Dolla $ign, providing one of the more memorable moments of the record.
As for Swaye, this record, in my opinion, does a lot for the rising rapper. Despite being certified in the Gangster Rap arena, I wasn’t sure what his appeal was outside of just that. On, “Old Bird” he proves that ultimately, we know nothing, as he showcases a more sensitive side, while still sticking to with that roughneck swagger that got him here in the first place.
