Take a bit of advice from Nigeria born, Mayowa on how to deal with a broken heart.

“GlassHeart” is an upbeat jam that tells the story of someone attempting to move on from broken relationship. Pursuit of individual success, gaining social recognition, all weapons in a broken heart battle. But in this story Mayowa, who plays the main role, can’t help but to wonder what she thinks of it all. He reflects on their shared past in a last ditch effort to sort through all the complicated and contradictory emotions he feels towards her. But in the end, he decides he doesn’t owe it anything.

Mayowa, who’s name means “to bring me joy”, was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, but he’s Chicago raised and proud of it. After having taken a hiatus from music, Mayo is now back and better than ever. “GlassHeart” is his follow up to his most recent single “Fight This Feeling” produced by Milo Mills. Like is preceding single “GlassHeart” also deals with women and love lost. It’s a track lead by lavish piano chords and a thick bassline. All-in-all the Ben Farmer assisted production mixes deliciously with Mayowa’s hook “She gone hate me when she see me on the gram” forming a very catchy cut.

Glassheart was inspired by a friend of mine who was dealing with some issues with his significant other (who is now his ex-girlfriend).” Mayowa told us over email “He told me he had found out she wasn’t as loyal as he thought and this sense of being lied to really started to eat him alive. He lost himself in love and when the truth had settled it hurt him more than he could imagine. Empathetic to his struggle I told him he was not alone and I had dealt with something similar to what he was going through. I advised him to let time heal the wounds and to start focusing on himself. This story is not only exclusive to males but also females as well. We all can reflect on a time in our lives where we felt played and duped by someone we thought loved us. It’s not an easy thing to go through but I feel that we find out a lot about ourselves when we go through something that can feel negative and hard to deal with. We all have Glasshearts and when we fall and our Glasshearts break it can be hard but it’s up to us to put the pieces back together. This song is for everyone and anyone who’s gone through a similar story as my friend. Sometimes you have to laugh to help from crying. Sometimes you have to flex on your ex so she knows you were the best. I hope everyone enjoys this whole experience.”

I couldn’t say it better myself. Enjoy  The Jacob Roy co-directed visual below.
