Toronto native Jvnior submitted to us this past week and instantly garnered comparisons to fellow 6 side native and XO signee NAV, who can be seen anytime on Spotify’s Most Necessary playlists and on the Billboard charts with his hit single “Wanted You ft. Lil Uzi Vert”.
Jvinor follows in that path with the Matt Bricks and B Mac produced banger that is “Stimulants”. The upbeat, yet omniscient track reflects on drug use and late nights, and is the first return of the artist that disappeared to find his sound. The title is a reference to any sort of enhancements ingested to alter the state of mind, which is something that we are used hearing about when it comes to the Toronto nightlife. On the track, Jvnior explains that dealing with heartbreak that led him to steer towards using stimulants to keep his personality and mentality intact.
What paves Jvnior in his own lane is his versatility and clever songwriting abilities. Songs like “Had To” stand out and showcase the ability to create a song based on a concept and not a sound. Let’s face it, many artists create around a unique sound and once out of that element, may not be able to create at a quality as high as we become accustomed to. Jvnior’s consistency in quality is what made him stand out amongst the crowd.
