Gia Margaret‘s new track “Groceries” is definitely movie montage worthy. The gentle voiced Chicagoan creates a vibe from the beginning of the track, as the opening words say “it’s been a hard year,” over the simple, yet beautiful instrumental comprised only from an acoustic guitar and piano. Her voice is effortlessly breathtaking and her melancholic lullaby of heartbreak can easily resonate with anyone hurting or in the middle of a tough time. “Groceries” is a song off of her debut album entitled “There’s Always Glimmer,” released only a few days ago.

Her album was actually funded by a GoFundMe, comprised of donations from fans all over the world. Margaret said that she wanted her new work to be a sort of “art therapy,” as she herself was in a deep state of depression leading up to the making of the record. Her pain and feelings of hopelessness effortlessly emanate through the instrumental and make it very easy to understand exactly what she is going through from afar. At times the album feels as she is preaching to the choir, as her voice rips you back to difficulty and gloom in a perfectly nostalgic manner.

Gia Margaret is a treasure and I cannot wait to see what else she has in store.
