Ascending indie band Far Caspian’s fresh EP The Heights is a wistful portrait of growing up and settling into adulthood. The instrumentation on the project is not overwhelming, but satisfyingly in line with the current musical metonymies of the indie pop world. The synth patterns that are present all over the project were a shining bright spot of the record to me, adding an interesting second layer to the standard guitar and drums. Vocally the performance of Joel Johnston is very solid, showing a pleasing change-up in pitch and also some nice elements of harmony throughout. I enjoyed their track “A Dream of You,” the most out of the entire record. This overall was a solid listen and an enjoyable way to spend eighteen minutes.
