Rap is the new punk. Any seasoned music fan will tell you that many of the counter-culture trends of today have their origins in generations past. It seems that on an almost weekly basis a new star emerges in our decidedly digital era. Today, we’re excited to present the next such artist that is pushing the boundaries of what we consider “safe” in rap today.
Emotional Xan makes his elevator debut today with the anthemic “Break Shit.” The video finds Xan rocking his signature mohawk while delivering effortless bars with impressive bravado. G.U.N also lends a verse at the end of the destructive track. The video’s dystopian backdrop makes for the perfect setting for each emcee to deliver their respective rhymes over the eerie instrumental.
Xan may be a relative newcomer to the game and is certainly new to us at Elevator, but sometimes the best new trends are set by those uninterested by what’s popular. Xan boasts his own style that blurs the lines between punk and rap with surprising ease. In an era where songs and artists alike can at times be seen as interchangeable in the massive machine that is the music industry, Xan seems to determined to play the game by his own rules. “Break Shit” is a testament to disruption. Xan seems content to break anything, including the preconceived notions of what it means to be a star in today’s industry. All we know is that Emotional Xan is well on his way to defining himself on his own terms in an industry that makes that difficult at times.
