“I can’t fall off cause Julio rebound like Dennis Rodman.” The DC rap scene is quietly made up of some of the toughest individuals in the game, and Don Julio Mani offers up a quick reminder with a new video for “Sucka Shyt.” The dread-headed, DMV rapper is assertive as ever in dismissing any behavior that is beneath him.

It’s a crew anthem, and the video makes it crystal clear as Julio smokes up with his crew and dances around the studio. Their energy is high, but the beat more so rides along allowing the message to be as clear as day. “Most these niggas on some sucka shit, I’m like fuck a nigga, you must don’t know who you fuckin with, I might bust a nigga.”

Julio’s crew doesn’t look like one to mess with here, and given his influence drawn from Pimp C, 2 Pac, and Gucci Mane it makes sense that he surrounds himself with those who will hold him down and also elevate his career. He’s been rapping since youth, performing for his older friends and cousins before seriously pursuing it. Building independently is very tough, but he celebrates the process as he knows it won’t happen overnight. He prioritizes going about his career the right way and keeps tunnel vision so the negativity doesn’t hinder his progress.

He’s released a slew of videos over the last year, such as “Goon Lurkin,” “Lower Price,” and “Bad Guy. If you aren’t familiar with the DC rap scene beyond Wale, Goldlink and Shy Glizzy it’s not too late to learn up. Don Julio Mani isn’t going anywhere for quite some time. Stay tuned for what’s coming next, but in the meantime celebrating not being a “sucka” with the “Sucka Shyt” video.
