“Maybe we’re meant for each other, maybe we’re not, I don’t wanna stop, I’m so into you.”
Isn’t it amazing how the more we fall for someone, the more we tend to doubt everything we think we feel? The tension between our natural feelings and invasive over thinking can drive us mad as we embark on a journey with a person we think can be the one. Pop opera singer-songwriter Charisse Mills puts this internal conflict on full display in her new video for the single “Can’t Trust Myself.”
Starring Grammy nominee B Slade and directed by Swagga Bobb, there’s a noir-feeling to this visual which lends itself to truly conveying the romantic energy between the two, but simultaneously the emotional strife. Mills exclaims “I pray that you catch all the feels I do” in the hopes that the confusion she’s experiencing won’t be alone. Yet we listeners can just as easily catch her feels through the passion and reality conveyed through her vocals.
The climax here would certainly be the scene where the Trinidadian songstress and Slade are underneath the sheets, and she belts “It’s seems too good to be true” as they’re going at it. Talk about mind in one place, body in another. It’s a sultry offering from the 31-year-old, fit for the lovers and the sad folks.
This visual is a strong kickoff to what could be a prosperous 2019 for Charisse. The summertime was occupied by her anthem “Champion,” but her talent level is already fully known after the success of her single “Champagne” featuring French Montana and her contributions to Ne-Yo‘s “Integrity.” If you’re not familiar, there’s still time. Don’t wait too long though.
