Indie sensibility meets island rhythm by rap city.

In the first fifteen seconds of Azizi Gibson‘s “5 Page Letter”, the guy’s lived Zaire, Germany, Singapore, and Thailand experiences inform the song. There is, of course, the play on the Aaliyah song “4 Page Letter.” Yet, for one, the sound is international; secondly, there is a beach-y, island rhythm that ripples through the production like the tiniest, gentlest wave. Once the vocals are revealed, the song doesn’t change much. There’s no collaboration here between the music producer and the recording artist that is dynamic. It, much like the wave, is small in stature and careful in cohesion. Azizi Gibson is making world music now, and “5 Page Letter” indicates an artist’s direction’s eye for international markets.
