A team of geniuses at Georgia Tech recently developed Shimon, a marimba-playing robot that possesses the capability to create and perform original compositions. The University’s center for Music Technology originally developed the robot to improvise alongside music students, using an algorithm that enabled the bot to develop unique patterns.

After a new series of developments, Shimon is now equippped with a database of over 5,000 songs and can produce his very own, original creation (complete with a hook/verse arrangement) completely by itself. In simpler terms, the robot studied millions of four-bar phrases and is now able to piece them together using theory knowledge to create a series of melodies and chords.

Learn more about Shimon in the informative video below and keep scrolling to hear some of his best compositions yet.
