Tekashi 6ix9ine recently made headlines after miraculously shutting down Charlamagne on The Breakfast Club, and is in the news again thanks to his trip to the Dominican Republic. The Brooklyn native has been vocal about his poverty-stricken upbringing in New York, which inspired him to venture South and hand out $100 bills to underprivileged children (see video here).

While on his trip, the rapper posed for a photo with an elderly woman which he later posted to Instagram with a caption explaining the significance behind his trademark “69.”

“I never lost sense of where I came from. That’s what makes me 69,” the rainbow-haired 21-year-old explains. “The true meaning of 69 is just because you’re right doesn’t mean I’m wrong, you just haven’t seen life from my perspective. Turn the 6 upside down; it’s 9 but remains the same in a different perspective. Open your mind and heart.”
